Most every school and business in Cullman County will be closed today. If there were ever a prototypical “Alabama Snow Day” … this is it.
School Business Closings for February 26, 2016
Cullman Emergency Management announced before 6 am this morning that roads throughout Cullman County are “still impassable, travel should be suspended or delayed.”
Further, they stated. “Only emergency vehicles should travel county roads and bridges till further notice.”
Here is a roster of major school business closings:
- City of Cullman Schools
- Cullman County Schools
- Wallace State College
- Cullman City Hall
- All Cullman County Offices (per the boss man Kenneth Walker)
- The CARTS System
It is safe to assume that your school or business is also CLOSED today. If in doubt, contact your employer or administrator before attempting to head out.
So … unless you are directly involved in emergency services (or USPS), just take a day off.
8:15 am UPDATE:
All of the above is true … except if you work for the US Postal Service. One of our citizen reporters has informed us of this: “I work for the post office and we were told to report at 10 today. Many carriers don’t have four wheel drive. It would be helpful if people living on the side roads would clear the approach to their box so the carriers won’t get stuck.”
An inscription on the James Farley Post Office in New York City reads:
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.
If you know someone without power and/or shelter, the Red Cross is open for business of course. They have a shelter open at 1807 Beech Avenue in Cullman.
