5.5 Million Dollar Infrastructure Grant Awarded Cullman County Schools

Cullman County Schools, in partnership with Cullman Savings Bank and Merchants Bank, has been awarded 5.535 million in QZAB funds to renovate and improve school roofs, HVAC and electrical updates at the following schools:

★ Cullman Area Technology Academy
★ Cullman Child Development Center
★ Fairview High School
★ Good Hope High School
★ Hanceville High School
★ Hanceville Middle School
★ Vinemont High School
★ Welti Elementary School
★ West Point Elementary School

The funds are provided through the Federal Government’s Qualified Zone Academy Bond (QZAB) program. They support improvements to school facilities in communities where there is significant participation (over 35%) in the Free and Reduced Meals Program.

The funds are allocated through the State Department based on applications.

 

5.5 Million Dollar Infrastructure Grant Awarded Cullman County Schools

Cullman County School Superintendent Shane Barnett expressed appreciation immediately after the grant was awarded:

“I am so thankful and excited about this QZAB project and our local partnerships. I really appreciate Dr. Franey’s efforts in spearheading this project which will greatly benefit Cullman County Schools. These QZAB funds will allow us to complete projects that are listed on our Capital Plan up to 2020.”



The program requires a 10% match or in-kind contribution from businesses and private sector entities. This match is being met through services and/or donations from various community partners which include:

Superintendent Barnett concluded by saying:

“We are very appreciative to the State Department, Cullman Savings Bank, Merchants Bank and all of our community partners for their efforts in securing the QZAB funds that will provide much needed renovations to our schools.”
