Yahoo, Inc. announced Monday that the company intends to rename itself Altaba, Inc.
Yahoo! has a deal in place to sell its core internet businesses – including its digital advertising, e-mail, and media assets – to Verizon Communications for $4,483,000,000.
Yahoo!’s beleaguered Chief Executive Officer Marissa Mayer is expected to step down from the board after the deal is closed with Verizon Communications.
Apparently, the terms of that deal could be changed – or the transaction called off completely – after Yahoo revealed two separate data breaches:
• One involving 500 million customer accounts
• Another involving over 1 billion customer accounts
Verizon executives claim they see a strong strategic fit with Yahoo folded into their company, but they are still investigating the data breaches.
Five other Yahoo board of director member will resign after the deal closes.
The remaining board of director members will the govern Altaba.
The new company named Eric Brandt Chairman of the Board, effective January 9, 2017.
