The Hanceville Middle School (HMS) Scholars Bowl team is heading to the Alabama Middle School Scholar’s Bowl (ASCA) state championship tournament on February 25th.

The Cullman and Good Hope as well as the Arab and Hartselle Middle Schools Scholars bowl teams also earned the opportunity to compete against a total of 32 schools from around the state of Alabama in the same event.

Hanceville Middle School Scholar Bowl teacher – Carrie Morrow – invited us down to Hanceville Middle School recently to meet her student competitors in person:

★ Hank Radcliff – Captain
★ Taz Whaley – Captain
★ Brady Absher
★ Manisha Adams
★ Ethan Burgess
★ Noah Frasier
★ William Lesnansky
★ Alana Nisley

We believe this video footage from inside the HMS Scholars Bowl practice room will provide you an excellent example of what exactly goes in such a competitive academic environment AND just how profoundly sharp, high IQ and mentally responsive these young people really are:

At the recent County District Tournament, two members of the HMS squad had impressive performances:

Mr. Radcliff – Highest individual points
Mr. Absher – Fourth highest individual points

Merchants Bank of Alabama is the Hanceville team’s Adopt-A-School partner. The bank furnishes the squads’ competition shirts each year. This sponsorship allows students and parents to not worry about the financial costs of competition, thus allowing them to focus completely on their competitive academic skills.

The ASCA state middle school Scholars Bowl tournament will be held at Hoover High School, 1000 Buccaneer Drive, Hoover on Saturday, Feb. 25.
