Owen Lovell Named USA TODAY Preseason Baseball American

The well-deserved accolades for Cullman High School Baseball Cats senior pitcher and outfielder Owen Lovell reached a new height today.

Lovell as been selected to the 2017 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Baseball Team.

Jim Halley of USA TODAY Sports made the selection based on statistics, coaches recommendations, and scouting reports.

Obviously, it is a HUGE honor.

Lovell is a beast at 6′ 4″ and 225 lbs.

The Cats went 41-14 last season finishing as runners-up in the Class 6A state championship series.

Lovell is now a Mississippi State signee who batted .392 with 14 home runs, 15 doubles, 64 RBIs and 47 runs in 2016. In addition, he carried a fat .739 slugging percentage amassing a ridiculous .516 on-base percentage for the Bearcats.

Lovell is not too shabby on the mound either posting a 7-1 record with 59 strikeouts, three shutouts, and an ERA of 1.43 (all in 51 innings).

As the reigning Mr. Baseball in Alabama (officially Alabama’s best player), this national attention should present no problem and add no additional pressure for an even better 2017 campaign.
