Cody Strickland Detention Center Inmate Dies

An inmate at the Cullman County Detention Center (CCDC) was taken to Cullman Regional Medical Center after being treated and evaluated for an illness. This occurred early this morning.

Cody Dwayne Strickland (26) of Cullman was pronounced dead at Cullman Regional Medical Center a few hours later.

According to the CCDC, early indications suggest Strickland had complications from an internal illness, possibly pneumonia.

Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry believes there was no foul play suspected or involved in Strickland’s death:

“This is just a very sad situation. We have notified his family and we also made our Chaplin’s available to the family during this time as well. We also notified the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to conduct a transparent 3rd party investigation but everything at this time points to no suspected foul play.”

Strickland was arrested in September of 2015 by the Cullman Police Department on a variety of charges traffic and drug related charges.
