High Rollers Push Live Auction Over The Top

Dozens of Rotarians worked the main floor of the Cullman Civic Center Friday evening. Their job was simple yet complex: Keep order and administrate a tightly choreographed silent AND live auction offering hundreds of simple to premium items.

What is believed to be a record number of attendees came out to place their bids and take home their winnings in the Cullman Rotary Club’s 44th annual fundraising auction.

All transactions from the event’s sales and supporting fundraising efforts will go directly to the Rotary Club’s many, many charitable initiatives around Cullman County.

While the final accounting is not available at the time of this report, Rotary Fundraising Chairman Charles NeSmith is hopeful for a record-setting donation total:

“This is the Rotary’s sole fundraising event during the entire year. We are so very grateful for the community’s support. In recent years, the auction typically brings in around $50,000. We then are able to put those funds right back to work across the community for important causes and organizations. This year? It is looking very good … we may break a record … we’ll see …”

The BIG winners in the well-publicized Rotary Raffle portion of the event were:

Donnie Perkle -> Glock 17 9mm handgun

Mary Barnett -> $500 CASH (donated by Merchants Bank of Alabama)

A partial list of the items up for auction and the folks who donated them can be seen below. Cash and item donors from all over Cullman and surrounding counties participated according to Rotary Club President Dale Greer:

“We have 65 Rotarians go out into the community once a year to ask for assistance with items for the auction. I am always very impressed with how gracious, giving and supportive our donors are. We are extremely grateful for both their material support as well as their commitment to assisting the Rotary in sustaining our tradition of doing good works around the community.”
