Margie Guthrie Crowned Hanceville Nursing Home Queen 2017

On Monday evening, the Hanceville Nursing Home and Rehab Center recently held one of their most highly-anticipated events of the year.

Friends, family and some of the contestants’ biggest supporters gathered to watch the eleven contestants vie for the title of Ms. Hanceville Nursing and Rehab Center (HNRC).

Each participant brought fresh and honest perspectives that they shared with the crowd. They each answered a series of interview questions and took a spin on the floor to showcase those beautiful gowns. There was an abundance of grace, wisdom, elegance and sass in that room.

One repeating theme of the evening was how happy the residents were to participate in the pageant and how glad they were to live at Hanceville Nursing Home and Rehab Center. One contestant recalls:

“You know it’s clean here and the staff will help you with anything you need. They are so friendly and loving.“

It’s true. The staff couldn’t hide their enthusiasm and excitement, as smiles lit up their faces watching their residents. “Smile,” “You’re doing great,” “You’ve got this”, I could hear staff members chanting from the sideline.

Margie Guthrie, this year’s Queen captured the judges’ attention with her beautiful crimson dress and perfectly styled hair. She walked with grace and had a sense of confidence and finesse about her.

Judges Angie Carter, Sheriff Matt Gentry, and two out-of-county, experienced pageant judges had the toughest job. The Sheriff even joked, “I would rather walk into a room of armed men than having to make that decision again.”

Entertainment included an outstanding performance by Lakeley Medlock, a young twirling and dancing starlet. Emcee and singer, Amanda Henley, along with her mother, Wanda Smith performed two beautiful songs. After careful deliberation and a brief intermission, the judges reached their decision.
