Cullman Child Abuse Awareness Prevention Everyones Responsibility

Cullman Child Abuse Awareness Prevention Everyones Responsibility

Child abuse – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual – is not a fun topic.

After reading the above headline, the chances are good that you will instinctively shut down and move along to read something more pleasant and far less intense.

Many people perceive child abuse as ‘well … that has never happened to me,’ or ‘that child abuse thing doesn’t happen all that much; so … it is not a big deal.’

Unfortunately, child abuse is extraordinarily prevalent in our society and across Cullman County. Just because this horrific activity may not have occurred in your life’s orbit (as far as you know), it doesn’t invalidate its reality and your responsibility to be watchful for child abuse and then to report it, if you suspect it.

In this profound video, Javon Daniel and Nancy Bryant of Cullman Caring Kids explains the facts, statistics, and impact of child abuse in Cullman County:

Wednesday at high noon, the folks in Cullman County tasked with dealing with all aspects of child abuse (along with several concerned citizens) gathered at the Cullman County Courthouse.

They did so to participate in the annual Cullman Prayer Walk and Balloon Release to bring awareness to child abuse in Cullman County as well as to pray for the children injured and killed from the same.

Some of the agencies with personnel involved were:

• Cullman County Sheriff’s Office
• Brooks’ Place – Child Advocacy Center
• Cullman County DHR
• Cullman County Safety Department

Cullman Caring For Kids was the host agency for this gathering.

The participants marched in a processional from the Courthouse north on 1st Avenue Southwest towards the Main Parking Deck:

After reaching their destination and scaling several flights of stairs, the group of about 40 people gathered on the upper deck.

Javon Daniel of Cullman Caring For Kids led the team in a heartfelt prayer followed by an incredibly somber, touching and profound balloon release ceremony:

If you suspect that a child is being abused or neglected, contact your local police department, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Human Resources.
