Beautiful spring weather and a delightful atmosphere provided the perfect backdrop for the 3rd annual Cullman Art In The Park event on Saturday.

The venue was the venerable Main Avenue Park located on the northwest corner of 2nd Avenue SW and Main Avenue.

Over the duration of the six-hour gathering, hundreds of Cullman residents made their way through the 20+ arts and crafts vendor tents situated along the banks of the Ryan’s Creek tributary that runs west to east through the park.

Live music was one of the major draws for Art In The Park. The crowded enjoyed this performance from JulieAnn & Goldrush:

Shannon McNeal headlined the musical performances:

In addition to the above outdoor features, many attendees enjoyed the various playground attractions and picnic tables. The atmosphere was extraordinarily relaxed and completely family-friendly.

As expected, the Sidewalk Chalk Contest was the primary focus for many of the kids who came through. The grand prize to the winner was a pass to the Cullman Aquatic Center.

The southwest corner of the park is the home of the Cullman Art Guild Building. Award-winning entries from all ages of Cullman area artists packed this small structure.

At 11 am directly in front of the Art Guild Building, Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs and Cullman Parks Director Nathan Anderson conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony revealing an ambitious renaming and remodeling of Main Avenue Park.

Into the future, the park will be called Cullman Art Park.

The Chairman of the Cullman Parks & Recreation Board – Wells Turner – was on hand for both the event and the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He had these thoughts:

“Well, the weather could not be better. I am pleased with all the people who have turned out to support Art In The Park. The kids seem to love it.

Building the Cullman City Parks system to where it is today has been in progress for decades. The environmentally-friendly and sustainable renovations that we have planned for this new Art Park is unique to Cullman and surpasses the forward thinking of many communities, many which have much larger populations than Cullman.

We’re happy to be part of making Cullman a better place to live.”
