Cullman rue21 Corporate Downsize Victim

Cullman teen clothing retailer rue 21 is closing its doors as a victim in a sweeping corporate move.

Cullman rue 21 located in the Cullman Shopping Center will soon be closing its doors and liquidating inventory.

rue21 announced on their Facebook page that it had made the “difficult but necessary decision” to close hundreds of stores:

The good news is that consumers are being offered a 30% discount on purchases of $50 or more.

rue 21 is based out of Pennsylvania with approximately 1,100 locations scattered across the country in shopping malls, retail outlets, and strip centers.

rue21 announced financial struggles earlier in 2017.

Bankruptcy protection in order to pay back debts of nearly $1 billion in corporate debt is a possibility although no formal announcement has been made on that. The closing of nearly 1/3 of rue21’s stores is an obvious and apparently necessary corporate downsizing move designed to take pressure off the overhead cost structure of the company.

The closing affects the Cullman store immediately, but it is currently unknown on what day the store will cease operations in totality.
