Cullman Senior Shindig At Strawberry Festival 2017

The always popular Cullman Senior Shindig is FRIDAY (May 5th) running from 10 am to 2 pm at the Festhalle Marketplatz in downtown Cullman.

In a unique partnership agreement between Cullman City Parks and the Cullman County Commission on Aging, the always well-attended and largest outdoor Senior event of the year – the Senior Shindig – will be held concurrent with the two-day Strawberry Festival.

Hundreds of Cullman area Seniors citizen are expected to descend upon the Festhalle Friday morning. They will be treated to all the attractions available at the Strawberry Festival.

Also, they are invited to participate a wide range of fun and festive Senior-specific activities and contests, such as:

★ 3rd Annual Seniors Got Talent Competition
★ Buck Dancing
★ The Twist
★ Hula Hoop
★ Sweet Tooth Contest

1st place prizes in the Sweet Tooth competition (featuring homemade pastries, cakes) will be given for each food category. Ribbons will be provided for all other finalists.

Winners of the talent show will receive:

• $100 – 1st Place
• $50 – 2nd Place
• $25 – 3rd Place

The talent show will start at 11 am, and contestants need to report in at the stage by 10:30 am.

Commission on Aging Director, Dusty Baker, is excited about his Senior’s involvement:

“With live bluegrass music, bingo, a car show, and plenty of delicious food and drink, the annual Senior Shindig is already a high point of fun and entertainment for Cullman County Seniors. When we added in all the extra attractions offered by Strawberry Festival, we realized this took the Shindig to a new, exciting level. I appreciate the City Parks Department including us into the larger event.”

Cullman County Commission Chairman Kenneth Walker expects a big crowd with plenty of excitement:

“The Senior Shindig is one of the most exciting and engaging events of each year. I am consistently amazed at the level of talent, athleticism and skill the contestant’s display. I am sure this year will be no different.

 

Myself and Associate Commissioners Kerry Watson and Garry Marchman are proud to participate in this event. The Cullman County Commission fully supports all the Cullman County Commission on Aging’s ongoing events, particularly the Senior Shindig.”
