Charles NeSmith Elected 2017 Cullman Rotarian of the Year

“I think I speak for all of us in saying we are SO proud of Charlie’s dedication to the Cullman community and how he exemplifies what the Cullman Rotary Club stands for.”

Following a full membership, secret-ballot election, the Cullman Rotary Club have voted Charles NeSmith as their Rotarian of the Year for 2016-2017.

This prestigious annual award goes to the Cullman Rotary Club member that best exemplifies the highest standards this international humanitarian organization can bestow on its members.

To gain this top elective award, the Rotarian must pass a rigorous qualification gauntlet:

• The winner should have an exemplary attendance record.

• The winner is involved in fundraising projects that benefit the Club.

• The winner has to participate in additional club activities which strengthen the building of camaraderie of the club.

• The winner has contributed to the day-to-day workings of the Club to ensure effective function.

• The winner has attended the extensive Rotarian training.

• The winner is an active participant in the Rotary’s annual membership drive.

• Plus, many, many more …

His fellow Rotarian’s believe that NeSmith has more than filled every requirement.

NeSmith has accumulated a lengthy roster of community accomplishments, including leading the annual Rotary Auction event to a record-breaking year. He has been the Chair of this fundraising auction over the last three years.

He was instrumental in raising nearly $57,000 dollars to be donated back to the community of Cullman. 

NeSmith was the Cullman Rotary President in 2006-2007.

He started the organization’s literacy program that now donates books to both Cullman City and County schools.

NeSmith has lived in Cullman since 2002. With a major in finance from Auburn University, His 30-year professional career has led him to now serve Merchants Bank as President and Senior Lending Officer.

His wife Susan and daughter Chelsea (from New York) made a surprise appearance at the Rotary’s presentation ceremony for this Rotarian of the Year designation. He also has a son named Chaz who could not attend, but was enthusiastic about his father’s win.

Current Cullman Rotary President – Dale Greer – summed up the view of all Rotarians during the ceremony:

“I think I speak for all of us in saying we are SO proud of Charlie’s dedication to the Cullman community and how he exemplifies what the Cullman Rotary Club stands for.”
