2017 Mud Run Stony Lonesome OHV Park

The 2017 Mud Run was where mud and mayhem came together!

Participants ground their way through the NEW, challenging Stony Lonesome OHV Park course on Saturday in the 2017 Mud Run 5K and 1 Mile Walk..

They faced such challenges as:

• Crawling through grimy mud
• Climbing over high walls
• Splashing across a wooden bridge
• Traversing through obstacles

… packed throughout this muddy course.

Heavy overnight rains made the terrain unusually excellent (and difficult) for this event.

It was an extremely spectator friendly event that provided great fun for the entire families, teams and single participants. Cheering for the participants along the expanse of the Mud Run course was a huge part of the event.

The annual Mud Run at Stony Lonesome was an extremely memorable experience for everyone!

The START: 2017 MUD RUN

300+ brave, hardy (crazed?) runners are embarking into the mud and mayhem of the annual Mud Run at Stony Lonesome OHV Park.

Overcast skies, heavy overnight rains and a newly tricked up course will present participants with the best (and most challenging) Mud Run course ever. Water in some areas will be chest deep and the copious supplies of red mud on the track are super thick … and flat cold this morning.

The MIDDLE: 2017 MUD RUN

Many participants in 2017 Mud Run had already hit wall with the finish line still quite a distance away.

At this point in the race, their previously pristine running gear was now completely soiled and saturated. Adding further insult and challenge before finishing, they had to successfully cross Lake Stony.

It is not nearly easy as you might think.

The FINISH: 2017 MUD RUN

Due to a completely redesigned course, heavy overnight rains and at times shin-deep near quicksand like Mud, times are extremely higher than past years of the Mud Run at Stony Lonesome.

We are now at the finish line where exhausted runners are required to plunge down a large culvert pipe into a waiting pool of filth and mud. Good times!

These men were the top three male finishers in Saturday’s Mud Run 5K. Alex Methvin placed 1st with a time of 40.27.

Lauren Estes Velez took 1st place in the female field with a time of 54.18.

Cullman County Parks & Recreation set up the most challenging course ever at Stony Lonesome with everyone who finished being a winner (this is the rare case where a participation prize is warranted by all!).
