Several intrepid Cullman photographers took the challenge Saturday night. With largely clear skies, they went out and captured some spectacular images of last night’s Thunder Moon.

Around 11 pm, a Full Thunder Moon dominated the Cullman County sky alongside Saturn. It went 100% full at 11:07 am CDT. With the moon’s altitude reaching 34 degrees above the horizon in Cullman.

This full Thunder Moon will be present through Monday night in the constellation Sagittarius, appearing just below Aquila (The Eagle) and above Nunki (Sigma Sagittarii), a medium-bright star of magnitude 2.3.

Here is the work of all photographers who participated:

Susan took this through a telescope from the shores of Smith Lake.

Beth took this shot around 2 am from Good Hope. She comments: “The moon was shining so bright that I looked out my window. I remembered tonight was the night for the Thundermoon, so I ran and grabbed my camera! Gorgeous.”

Vickie took this at her home around 12:30 am.
