The first student day at area schools is less than three weeks away!

Cullman City Schools open to students on Wednesday, August 9th. Cullman County Schools also begins on the same day.

Beginning today the window opens to the annual statewide back-to-school sales tax holiday commences.

Parents and students across Cullman (and Alabama) have a 3-day window to stock up on school supplies, computers, books, and clothing WITHOUT PAYING SALES TAX.

This annual sales tax holiday window is always a welcome time for cost-conscious shoppers.

Alabama’s 12th annual sales tax holiday for school-related items begins at 12:01 am. Friday, July 21, 2017, and ends at midnight Sunday, July 23, 2017, giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers, books and clothing free of the state’s four percent sales or use tax.

Cities and counties must notify the state that they will participate in the 2017 holiday by June 21. This is the first year the tax holiday will occur in July.

Cullman County along with the major municipalities of City of Cullman, Hanceville, Good Hope and Dodge City ARE participating this year.

Here are the general parameters of the tax-free on permitted items:

Clothing & Footwear
$100 or less per article

School supplies

$30 or less per book

Computers, tablets, and printers
