The intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and Alabama State Route 278 East is the scene of some chaos this afternoon.

Two incidents – one involving a vehicle rollover with entrapment + a fully involved vehicle fire – have emergency response agencies from Holly Pond and Blount County scrambling at the moment.

The first incident involved the rollover accident near the intersection of Blount County Road 6 and Highway 278 East just over the Blount-Cullman county line. This location is just west of the U.S. Highway 231 and Alabama State Route 278 East intersection.

One occupant in this wreck was entrapped in the damaged vehicle.

Traffic along 278 at the crash site is blocked and/or slowed depending upon your direction of travel.

A Trooper from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is on scene conducting an investigation into the crash.

The second incident is occurring at the popular Spring Valley Super-Stop on the southeast corner of the 131 and 278 intersections. It is a fully involved van fire at or near the fuel pumps. The exact location is 79022 US-278, Blountsville, AL 35031.

Motorists traveling in this Rainbow Crossing community would be wise to be cautious and make appropriate detours this afternoon.
