The weather could not have been better Friday night for the Rock & Glow 5K Run held at Sportsman Lake Park.

Billed as a ‘glowing experience where we focus on enjoying the night and less about speed,’ the event brought out about 200 racers of all different speeds, ages, shapes, and sizes which were also ready to GLOW!

The Sportsman Lake Park course was set-up to a 3.1 miles distance with music at multiple spots along the course. The on-course DJ pumped out the latest tunes. Motivation was no problem with that auditory back drop.

All runners and walkers participating in the 5k Rock & Glow 5K received a slew of goodies including a fancy Rock & Glow T-shirt.

The race itself was truly an equal opportunity affair with super serious, competitive runners blended with mothers with strollers and wheelchair participants. It appeared everyone was both challenged by their performances AND in an enjoyment of the festive atmosphere.

Here is the START of the Rock & Glow 5K 2017:

Here are the FEMALE WINNERS of the Rock & Glow 5K 2017:

Youth Division: Anna – East Elementary
Adult Division: Lauren Estes Velez – Cullman

Here are the MALE WINNERS of the Rock & Glow 5K 2017:

Youth Division: Riley Crisman – Cullman High
Adult Division: Travis Holloman – Arab

The number of runners was down this year due to apparent overbooking of events generally in the Cullman area as well as a 5K double booking with the City of Cullman’s 5K Midnight Run. Even though the attendee count was down, the event made up for it with enthusiasm, fun, and competitiveness.

There was also the annual after-party following the race where glow runners and walkers were encouraged to stay and dance the night away.
