Home Burns To Ground On County Road 649
Firefighters are responding to a Cullman e911 call concerning a residential structure fully involved in flames along County Road 649.
This location is just east of the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament and south of the Walter in the Riverside community.
Walter Volunteer Fire Department has a number of personnel members active at the scene along with a deputy from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.
There is some uncertainty at the location as to whether or not the house was occupied at the time of the fire’s onset. In speaking with neighbors, they indicate that the home is a rental unit and the tenants who lived there were evicted earlier today.
According to Walter Fire Chief Randall Henderson, when his department arrived, the structure was almost completely burned to the ground already. His department is currently working to ensure the flames do not initiate a grass fire or a woods fire. This home is located next to some heavy, closely packed surrounding trees.
No injuries have been reported to firefighters. The fire suppression effort here is likely to continue into the wee hours of Saturday morning.
