Horses Perish Man Airlifted In Fairview Collision Saturday
Cullman e911 dispatched emergency responders to the area of Alabama Highway 69 and County Road 1662 intersection around 2:00 pm Saturday.
The 911 call concerned a 2-car motor vehicle collision with an occupied horse trailer involved.
Upon arrival, rapid responders from Fairview Fire & Rescue discovered that two pickup trucks had collided with both mechanically disabled on Highway 69.
One of the trucks had been pulling a horse trailer with three equestrian occupants. The trailer was separate from the truck coming to rest off the roadway on the grassy shoulder.
Deputies from Cullman County Sheriff’s Office quickly closed Highway 69 in both directions.
Detours were set up so that affected motorists could go around the wreck scene using Wesley Avenue North and County Road 1534 through the Town of Fairview.
A medical team from Cullman EMS was active at the location. They medically stabilized at last one human involved in the mishap.
The injuries to that individual were so severe that the assistance of Air Evac Lifeteam was required.
The injured party airlifted out via medical helicopter to a Level 1 Trauma Center outside of Cullman County.
The three horses involved all perished at the scene; one ejected from the trailer during the crash.
A Trooper with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency eventually arrived at the location and conducted a complete investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
It is our understanding that the horses were participants in Saturday’s Frontier Days celebration parade in Eva. They were headed home after that event.
