Emergency personnel from Johnsons Crossing and Good Hope Fire departments were dispatched by Cullman e911 to a residence along County Road 702 in the Phelan community this weekend.

The 911 caller indicated that a maroon colored pick-up truck pulling a trailer with a ride-on lawnmower onboard had left the roadway and crashed into a home.

Upon arrival at the scene, personnel from both departments discovered that indeed a Ford pick-up truck had departed County Road 702. It had proceeded through a residential front yard where it terminated its wayward journey by bludgeoning a brick home.

The truck entered the dwelling’s living room through an outer brick wall leaving the interior of the home in shambles. The exterior of the house lost substantial amounts of brick veneer on two separate outer walls.

Johnsons Crossing Fire Chief Mark Reeves indicated that he believed the operator of the pickup truck incurred some type of medical episode just before the crash.

The driver was transported to Cullman Regional by a medical team from Cullman EMS with lacerations and contusions.

The home was occupied at the time of the crash. A timely trip to the laundry room appears to have been instrumental in preventing severe injury or death to this Phelan resident.

Deputies with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office were also active at the scene. It is believed no criminal charges or traffic citations were issued in the incident.

The structure has since had the gaping hole temporarily boarded up as the property owner works for a settlement with the insurers involved in the case.
