Circuit Clerk and Circuit Judges Also Publicly Announced Their Intentions To Run For Re-election in 2018

Secretary of State John Merrill brought his high energy, high citizen value presentation to the Cullman VFW Tuesday night.

The occasion was the regular meeting of the Cullman County Republican Women.

Merrill dived deep into his successful, and now historic efforts in cleaning up functional waste, bureaucratic lethargy, and public-sector malfeasance that he inherited when taking over the office.

You can experience the totality of his remarks in this video:

On the undercard, Vickie Bailey of the Alabama Federation of Republican Women gave an outstanding presentation. She made an enthusiastic case for women’s political groups growing their organizations at the grassroots level.

Perhaps the big surprise of the night came at the hands of outgoing President Diane Brown who asked that all candidates and potential candidates planning on running in the soon arriving 2018 elections stand and say a few words.

As a result, ‘Election Season 2018’ in Cullman officially began Tuesday night.

Three incumbent candidates publicly announced their intention to run for re-election at this meeting:

• Circuit Clerk Lisa McSwain
• Circuit Judge Martha Williams
• Presiding Circuit Judge Gregory Nicholas

Political newcomer – Andy Coffey – who announced his plans to seek the Cullman County Commission Place 2 seat several weeks ago – also spoke.

Commissioner Gary Marchman also reiterated his intention to run for elective office in 2018. However, he resisted the urge to announce whether he would seek re-election in his current role on the Cullman County Commission representing Place 2 or go after some other office.
