West Point Collision Takes Life Of Jerry Brown On Highway 157

Emergency personnel were dispatched by Cullman e911 to a motor vehicle accident along Alabama Highway 157 around 6:30 am Saturday.

First responders from West Point Fire & Rescue discovered a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of County Roud 1248 and Alabama Highway 157.

The mishap involved a 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck and a 2007 Nissan Maxima. The Chevrolet had been collided into from the rear by the Maxima.

Air Evac Lifeteam was originally summoned to the scene based upon injuries sustained by the driver of the Chevrolet. That medical helicopter request was soon canceled after it was determined that the driver had perished in the crash.

Cullman County Coroner Jeremey L. Kilpatrick pronounced Jerry Wayne Brown (70) of West Point dead at the scene.

The driver of the Nissan – Adam McMurphy (25) of Cullman – was injured in the collision. He was treated by a medical team from Cullman EMS and quickly transported by ambulance to Cullman Regional.

A deputy with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office was active at the location along with Troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The initial Trooper investigation has determined the that Mr. Brown was not wearing seat restraints at the time of the incident.

The wreck occurred just up the roadway from Haney Equipment Company.
