On Tuesday, Deputies and Investigators with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident accompanied with a domestic dispute between parties as well as the possibility of firearm discharge involved.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies and investigators ascertained that a suspect had discharged a firearm at a vehicle occupied by two people.

Additionally, deputies and investigators ascertained that the suspect had intentionally rammed his vehicle into the the two shooting target’s car in some sort of road rage incident as they pulled out of the Shady Grove Baptist Church parking lot.

The church is located along County Road 783 between Holly Pond and North Walter in far southeastern Cullman County.

Following the suspect’s one shot firearm discharge at the two occupants of the vehicle, the suspect then proceeded to join in a physical altercation with the occupants of the vehicle.

According to Cullman Sheriff’s Office Communications Bradley Williams, deputies arrived on scene within minutes and detained the suspect.

As a result, deputies arrested:

Anthony Allen Garner, Jr. (47) of Hanceville

Garner has been charged with Attempted Murder.

Sheriff Matt Gentry had these thoughts following the arrest:

“This is a domestic dispute between parties familiar with each other that involved a gun and obviously went way too far. I am glad the deputies were able to arrive at the scene in a quick manner before it got even worse. “

Garner is currently in the Cullman County Detention Center. He has a $60,000 bond.

Mr. Garner has been charged with an offense, NOT convicted of a crime. The judicial process following this arrest ultimately determines his personal guilt or innocence in regards to the criminal charges. If found guilty of any of the charges, his criminal sentencing and possible punishment will be largely determined by the statutes written in the Alabama Code for such matters.
