Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence (BRSE) assesses participating school on nine (9) major categories of critical performance exhibited by excellent schools:

• Student Focus and Support
• School Organization and Culture
• Challenging Standards and Curriculum
• Active Teaching and Learning
• Technology Integration
• Schedule Assessment
• Professional Community
• Leadership and Educational Vitality
• School, Family, and Community Partnerships
• Indicators of Success

At its core, the BRSE Program is a school self-assessment experience that uses a blueprint model with guidance and support from Blue Ribbon Recognized School Educators.

The program assists all schools (with a special focus on low socioeconomic, culturally diverse, and low performing communities) of learning in assessing the quality of their academic and instructional programs and in developing a school-wide action plan to ensure measurable student achievement.

The BRSE Program develops and supports educational policies that improve student performance and enable comprehensive school reform.

To win this national award, it is a very ‘big deal’ for the schools involved as well as the students, teachers, and administrators.

The awards were presented at the annual Blueprint for Excellence National Conference on Dec. 1 in Orlando, Florida.
