Mike Graves Announces Vinemont School Board Re-Election Bid

Mike Graves is an elected representative of the Cullman County Board of Education finishing his first term in office. While he represents the best interests of all student in the county school system, he is assigned direct responsibilities for Vinemont Elementary, Vinemont Middle, Vinemont High School as well as the Child Development Center.

Mr. Graves has spent most of his adult life as a citizen in the Town of Vinemont. He enrolled at Vinemont High School in 1971 and graduated in 1979 along with 2 years carpentry study at the Cullman County Area Vocational Center.

He was a longtime member of the Vinemont Providence Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years. Graves served as Fire Chief for 27 years. He retired from Fire Service in January of this year.

Married in 1980 to Susan Sims daughter of Peggy (Thompson) Sims and the late Gerald D. Sims. Together they are the parents of 3 children, Christy (Graves) Parker, Keith Graves (wife Heather (Chandler) Graves and 3 children, Hunter, Logan and Levi), and Kayla Graves.

Mr. Graves has a strong career history:

  • 1980-1983: General carpentry work and retail lumber sales
  • 1983-1986: Owned and operated a residential construction company
  • 1986-1994: Superintendent of construction for Pearce Construction Company
  • 1994-1996: Superintendent of construction for Craft and Associates Construction Company
  • 1996 to present: Public Works Official for the Town of South Vinemont. Duties include, building official, grant writing, administration and construction, park and recreation director, street maintenance and economic development.

Mike Graves intends to run for re-election to the Cullman County Board of Education in 2018.
