Three Major County Road Resurfacing Projects Coming Up

At the most recent meeting of the Cullman County Commission, three substantial county road resurfacing plans were part of the agenda.

All three were placed on the agenda by Chairman Kenneth Walker and unanimously approved by Commissioners Kerry Watson and Garry Marchman.

The first project (Resolution #2018-08) involves the resurfacing of County Road 813 from County Road 437 to County Road 222. This much-traveled connector road provides access to Smith Lake Park. Work on this is expected to begin in 2018.

The second project (Resolution #2018-09) involves the resurfacing of County Road 1545 (Gold Ridge Road) from County Road 1422 (Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church) to the intersection of County Road 1527 (Shaddix Country Mall). Work on this is expected to begin in 2019.

The third important item was authorization for Chairman Walker to make a matching funds payment in the amount of $202,656.52 to the Alabama Department of Transporation.

This funding authorization will put into motion a resurfacing process for County Road 222 from County Road 96 to County 109. This approximate five miles of roadway is just east of Big Bridge.

In other Cullman County Road Department news:

• The speed limit on County Road 1668 – after a review – is now set at 35 mph.

• Authorization to make repairs to a compact roller for $13,450 was approved.
