Northeast Blanketed With Snow Erie Sets All-Time Record

A white Chrismas was an understatement for portions of the northeastern United States.

The largest amount of snow fell from 7 pm on December 24th to 5 pm December 26th in Erie, PA. Erie received 60 inches of snow during that time. That amount shattered snowfall records for the city.

Erie residents awoke Tuesday, finding piles of snow in front of their homes, loaded atop motor vehicles, and smothering everything in multiple feet of snow.

This record-breaking snowfall created major transportation issues while also causing Erie International Airport to suspend arriving and departing flights by Christmas evening.

The snowfall total was more than four times the city’s previous all-time Christmas record of 8.1 inches, and it also broke the record for most snowfall in one day in the city’s history, which was 20 inches on November 22, 1956.
