ALDOT Director Visits Deadly Hanceville Intersection

The Director of the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) – John Cooper – made a special, emergency visit to the City of Hanceville this morning at 11 am.

Copper met with Mayor Kenneth Nail, members of the Hanceville City Council, and a group of concerned citizens at the intersection of Edmondson Road and Arkadelphia Road (US Highway 91) in the City of Hanceville.

This location was the scene earlier in the week of a fatal 18-wheeler versus pick-up truck collision that left Burshel Eugene Boatrite (74) of Crane Hill dead.

Mayor Nail vigorously expressed his concerns about the intersection immediately following the accident.

Numerous Hanceville residents were equally upset by the incident weighing in on social media:

Director Cooper declined an interview following his visit in Hanceville today. We did speak with Mayor Nail as well as Councilman Jimmy Sawyer and Councilwoman Kim Brown in this series of interviews from the deadly intersection:

Possible solutions for making the intersection safer for motorists highlighted the discussion with Mr. Cooper and the gathered dignitaries and citizens.

No definitive solution was arrived at. Cooper plans to consult an ALDOT engineer with specialized, local expertise before making a final recommendation.
