WANTED: JUSTIN McCOY BOOTH – Escapee From Hanceville Jail

Subject directly linked to collision that injured Hanceville Police Officer

Hanceville Police Department is currently searching for Justin McCoy Booth.

Booth is 23 years old. He escaped from Hanceville City Jail last night. This inmate’s getaway was directly related to the motor vehicle accident that severely injured a Hanceville police officer and another occupant of a passenger car. The officer has a fractured skull and a number of other injuries as he attempts to recover at UAB Medical Center.

Booth escaped during processing of other detainees. He has outstanding felony warrants in two other counties. He effectively mimicked other inmates following court proceedings wandering out an exterior door like an inmate chameleon.

According to Hanceville Assistant Police Chief Adam Hadder, Booth was quickly identified near Hanceville Police headquarters. He was still wearing his city striped jail uniform. Two HPD officers initiated a chase. One HPD SUV was struck by an 18-wheeler at the intersection of US Highway 31 and Alabama Highway 91 slamming the law enforcement vehicle into an oncoming passenger car.

Hanceville Police Department will charge Booth with Escape. A warrant is pending.

Any information on Booth, please call HPD dispatch at 256-352-9811.
