The following Cullman County Commission business was conducted Tuesday morning (January 23, 2018) at 10:00 am in the commission meeting room of the Cullman County Courthouse.

NOTE: The Cullman County Commission meets every second and fourth Tuesday, except in cases where the meeting date falls on a holiday, in which case the meeting is moved to the following day. Meetings are scheduled for 10 am in the Commission Office Conference Room, first floor, Cullman County Courthouse, Cullman, Alabama, unless otherwise specified.

Cullman County Commission Meeting: January 23, 2018


TERMINATION: The Commission ended the county’s State of Emergency that was initiated by Governor Kay Ivey’s State of Emergency Winter Weather Declaration last week. The Cullman County Commission declared a local State of Emergency in regards to Winter Weather on January 16th. That declaration was suspended and ended today.

APPROVED: A resolution (#2018-14) that will ensure Cullman County employees (mainly with the road and sanitation departments) who worked after 11 am January 16th and on January 17th will be appropriately compensated for their efforts even though county operations were technically closed. 

AUTHORIZED: Chairman Kenneth Walker to sign an entertainment contract with Post Panda Productions for the three summer festivals at Smith Lake Park in the amount of $14,800. Parks Director Doug Davenport indicated in the meeting that this is the same firm successfully utilized in the past for the Memorial Day Music Festival, the 4th of July Celebration, and Sweet Tater Festival.

AUTHORIZED: Chairman Kenneth Walker to sign an Agreement with Loomis Brothers Circus for a family entertainment show to be held at the Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center on February 2nd thru February 4th. Loomis is a reputable circus troupe that has successfully performed at this venue for the last few years.

APPROVED: The purchase of request furniture and equipment by the Cullman County Volunteer Fire Association in the amount $6,676.30. These items will complete the interior of the new fire/rescue training center in Vinemont.

AUTHORIZED: Chairman Kenneth Walker to sign an auction agreement with J. M. Wood Company to dispose of six (6) 2018 Mack GU713 try-axle dump trucks.

APPROVED: Payment to the City of Arab in Marshall County for a joint paving project on the south end of that community’s Main Street which joins a Cullman County road at the county line. The payment amount is $20,066.07

APPROVED: The purchase of a 2018 Mack Front Loader Sanitation Truck off the NJPA cooperative list through Ingram Equipment Company in the amount of $262,230.73. James Rollo, the Director of the Cullman County Sanitation Department, indicated that this vehicle will replace an aging front loader that is near the end of its 10-year lifespan and generating excessive repair expenses.
