Assistant Chief of Police Adam Hadder and Lieutenant Brannon Hammick of the Hanceville Police Department tracked down, captured and arrested Hanceville Jail escapee Justin McCoy Booth early Thursday in Jefferson County.

Booth’s escape and getaway was the lead domino in a chain reaction that led directly to the motor vehicle accident that severely injured Hanceville police officer Jason Hare and another occupant of an involved passenger car.

Officer Hare has a fractured skull and some other injuries as he attempts to recover at UAB Medical Center.

In this interview, Hadder and Hammick, provide the details surrounding their dogged pursuit of Booth, describe the environment in Jefferson County at the mass-occupancy flop house where they finally tracked the escaped inmate, explain how the arrest went down, and they thank all participating law enforcement agencies that assisted their effort.

They also discuss the additional motivation to apprehend Booth due to one of their own going down:

Booth escaped the Hanceville City Jail Monday night during processing of other detainees. He had outstanding felony warrants in two other Alabama counties. He effectively mimicked other inmates following court proceedings wandering out an exterior door like an inmate chameleon.

Officer Hare was taken to UAB hospital by Cullman EMS ambulance where he was stabilized and admitted. He is currently in the ICU where he will remain for several days.

Officer Hare is receiving treatment for a broken scapula, fractures, and lacerations on his face, head, and neck, a chip on his C spine, and pain in arms upon movement and touch.
