The post-season begins this week for local high school basketball squads. The Alabama High School Athletics Association is the governing body of Alabama playoff competitions.

After thirteen and half weeks of regular season play, we now have the brackets set up for the area tournament.

Hanceville High School (HHS) will be the host school for both men’s and women’s action.

The HHS women will tip-off tonight at 5:30 PM between the #2 and #3 Oakman High School versus Carbon Hill High School, both teams will be traveling from Walker County.

The winner of Game 1 will advance to play the winner of Game 2 at 5:30 Thursday at Lane Horton Gymnasium in the Class 3A Area 12 Championship game. The loser of Game 1 will be eliminated from the tournament and will be done for the season until the season tip-offs next year.

Oakman High School will be coached tonight by MaKenzie Burgett and will be assisted by Roger Brown. Together this year, they have led the Wildcats to be 3-3 in area match-ups and 15-11 in regular season play.

The Wildcats have played this season in two tournaments. In the Tharpton Invitational, they went 2-1, and in the Walker County Basketball Tournament, they won both games in which they played.

Carbon Hill High School will be coached tonight by Donald Tittle and be assisted tonight by Brandon Phillips. They have achieved a 3-3 area record resulting in a third place in the Area Tournament due to tie-breakers. This season they have only had 13 wins, while the losses have outnumbered the wins with 14 losses.

The Wildcats lost in the opening round of the Walker County Tournament to the Dora Bulldogs by 3 points, losing 70-67. Also playing in the Tharpton Invitational, they lost two games while only winning one game against the Indians of Brilliant High School.

The game will be the number #1 seed versus the number #4 seed. The winner will be advancing to play in the championship game Thursday night at 5:30 PM versus the winner of Game 1. Like Game 1, the loser of Game 2 will be eliminated from the postseason.

The Bulldogs of Hanceville High School tonight will be coached from the sidelines by Christina Watson on the 2001 Championship team.
