The Cullman Lions Club held its always much-anticipated Fish and Ham Dinner Saturday at Cullman Middle School. This 47th annual event ran from 11 am to 6 pm.

Machine-like precision experienced teamwork, and non-stop focus displayed by a small army of yellow vest-wearing Lions, and their support crew of Lioness and Leo volunteers highlighted this year’s 7-hour marathon food prep and community feast event.

With around 115 total members, the Cullman group is one of the largest Lions organizations in the state of Alabama.

At the cost of only $10, the Cullman Lions Fish & Ham Dinner is hard to beat. The meal consisted of patrons’ choices of either a Catfish filet or Ham + baked potato, slaw, hush puppies, a Dessert and a Drink.

Demonstrating the magnitude of the effort of this event is the 2,000 potatoes baked in anticipation of potentially record crowds brought out by spectacular early March weather. The dessert table – ran by the Cullman Lionesses – was a huge hit as well. The whole length of one cafeteria table was FULL of sweet delicacies.

This event is the Cullman Lion’s second biggest fundraiser of the year right behind the Cullman County Fair. While official, final results are not available, a large turnout for both lunch and dinner will almost certainly help the Lions reach their goal of $12,250 net receipts for this year’s event.

Cullman Lions Membership Committee Chair Frank Odell took us on a grand tour of the entire operation. You can follow along with the guided walking tour here:

The essence of the annual Fish & Ham Dinner transcends food. The event mirrors the Lions’s signature tagline: ‘We Serve.’

Lions Club members devote virtually all their financial resources towards multiple community service projects throughout the year while staying true to the Lions Clubs’ original, international mission which prevents blindness and saving sight for people from around the world.
