Cullman County Commission Listens; Changes Made To Park Rules

Six (6) different citizens from Cullman and Walker County came forward from the full house crowd gathered for Tuesday’s regular bi-monthly Cullman County Commission meeting.

These citizens were on hand to uniformly express their support for various aspects of Stony Lonesome OHV Park in Bremen AND strongly recommend that the 2-week old ban on coolers at the park be rescinded during the Public Comments portion of the meeting.

You can see these citizen’s full remarks in this video:

Commissioners Garry Marchman and Kerry Watson along with Chairman Kenneth Walker listened intently to each citizen. These remarks from the citizenry along with recommendations of Cullman County Parks & Recreation Director Doug Davenport were influential in the Commission’s decision-making process:

Later in the meeting, the Commission unanimously approved Coolers back onto the trails of Stony Lonesome with the mandatory checkpoint at the trailhead and ‘no alcohol’ rules remaining in place with beefed-up enforcement.

Specifically, the additional changes, additions, and refinements to Stony Lonesome OHV Park rules and regulations are:

1. The now infamous 2-week old ‘Cooler Ban’ has been lifted. Coolers utilized for soft drinks, water, food, insulin baby formulas, etc. will be allowed.

2. The new, mandatory ‘Cooler Check’ at the trailhead gate will remain in place to inspect Coolers for alcohol AND ensure riders are buckled in with appropriate harnesses and seat restraints.

3. Random spot checks for alcohol use and safety apparatus usage will begin park-wide, immediately.

4. Individuals in violation of Stony Lonesome’s ‘no alcohol’ rule will get the hook if caught. Offenders will be escorted off the property with no refund given.
