Superintendent Barnette On The Chasity McRae Situation

We spoke this morning with Shane Barnette, Superintendent of Cullman County Schools, in regards to now-former Vinemont Elementary School Counselor, Chasity McRae and her recent arrest.

The Superintendent indicated that an adult in the community contacted the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) last week in regards to McRae and a possible relationship with a student.

Contacted by CCSO early in their investigation, Superintendent Barnette confirmed a Thursday arrest of McRae.

According to Barnette:

“Chasity McRae has resigned her position as Counselor at Vinemont Elementary School. Her decision was not prompted by myself; she departed of her own free will. Chasity McRae is no longer employed by the Cullman County School system.

The investigation revealed that she communicated initially with an 18-year-old student via social media and then things escalated into a physical relationship.

Regardless of the criminal and judicial circumstances in this case, at no time is it appropriate for one of our teachers to engage in any romantic or physical relationship with our students.”
