The Cullman County Sheriff’s Citizen’s Academy recently took a Saturday break from the classroom studies to receive full spectrum firearm training.

Citizen Academy students took a trip to the Cullman Law Enforcement gun training range near the end of Bolte Road. They left several pounds of brass on the ground.

The class focused on safely handling a weapon, proper technique for shooting their weapon, cleaning of guns, getting familiar with their firearms.

In this video, four of the Academy participants

• Shanna Lackey
• Melissa Parrish
• Don Towers
• Jessica Waldrop

describe their experience on the gun range AND give an overview of their time as students inside the Citizen’s Academy:

The Next Citizen’s Firearms Safety Class

Would you like to attend something like this?

Well then, good news: The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Citizen’s Firearms Safety Class on Monday, April 23rd at 6:00 pm. This will be held at the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.

There will be live-fire training on Saturday, April 28th at 8:00 am.

The class will focus on safely handling a weapon, proper technique for shooting your weapon, cleaning your weapon, getting familiar with your weapon, and a power point will be shown as well.

Citizens will be able to able to sign up to attend a safety course at the shooting range during the Monday night class.

Sheriff Matt Gentry:

“We here at the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office are advocates of our citizens having the knowledge and training they need to protect themselves. I would add that we want them to also know how to handle the weapon safely and with this free training they are able to gain valuable knowledge in both these areas.”

To register please email Captain Mark Persall at mpersall@cullmansheriff.org or Bradley Williams at bwilliams@cullmansheriff.org, you may call to ask either man questions at 256-734-0342.

Citizens do not have to register, but it is encouraged as it gives CCSO deputies a good idea as to the number of participants attending the class.

Do NOT bring a gun or ammo on Monday night of the class. This is classroom portion only.
