Suspicious Fatality House Fire Near Hulaco

Morgan County 911 dispatched multiple county firefighting units to a location along Alabama Highway 67 early this morning.

The 911 call concerned a house fire near the intersection of Apple Grove Road and Highway 67. This location is just north and west of Hulaco in the Ryans Crossing community.

Personnel from Rock Creek and Tri-County Fire Departments arrived shortly after 2:30 am to find the residential structure fully involved in flames. The full extinguishment of the blaze took approximately two hours. There were no injuries to firefighters.

During the lengthy firefight, one occupant was found deceased inside the home. Two other other occupants were transported to Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children.

The office of the Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn confirmed the fatality, but has yet to identify the victim. The remains of the deceased were taken to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for identification.

As in all cases involving death connected with a fire, members of the Alabama State Fire Marshal are investigating the nature and cause of the fire.

WHNT has reported that deputies from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office believe “the fire could be suspicious”. MCSO investigators are active at the address with a crime scene tape in place.
