2 DRIVERS TAKE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

At this morning’s regular meeting of the Cullman County Commission, four C.A.R.T.S. bus drivers were recognized and honored for their driving excellence in the recent Alabama state bus roadeo completion by Chairman Kenneth Walker and Commissioners Kerry Watson and Garry Marchman:

Wade Hancock – 1st place, Van Division
Russell Speegle – 1st Place, Bus Division
Don Bonacci – 2nd Place, Bus Division
Teresa Givens – 3rd Place, Bus Division

That is impressive, congratulations!

Cullman County has one of the best transportation systems in the State of Alabama. It is truly one of the county’s best-kept secrets. It is also a critical lifeline of support and compassion for hundreds of Cullman County residents.

It is called C.A.R.T.S. (Cullman Area Rural Transportation System).

The National Community Transit Roadeo competition consisted of written test, a pre-trip inspection of their vehicles, a loading/unloading wheelchairs safety test, a challenging obstacle course, and a series backing, parking and curbside pickup maneuvers.

Cullman Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) drivers have delivered at least one trophy annually from this national competition since its inception.

The National Community Transit Roadeo is the only national venue to honor and celebrate the value of rural and community transit operators, the backbone of the Community Transportation industry. This exciting event draws drivers from around the country to compete for top scores on a course that tests skills on every level of the drivers’ abilities.

Every year we will celebrate the National Community Transportation Roadeo, an event that features the best community and public transportation drivers in the nation, followed by a banquet in their honor and awards to the top competitors.

The driving course includes two competitions: Body-on-Chassis (BOC) vehicles, often known as cutaways and minivans.
