Motorist Struck By Own Vehicle – Air Lifted To UAB

A pedestrian has been struck down by his own vehicle near the intersection of Highway 31 & 278 in the heart of the City of Cullman.

The motorist involved had a disabled vehicle stalled near the intersection. It is believed he exited the vehicle as a pedestrian. His goal appeared to push his truck out of busy traffic. At some point in the process, the man may have slipped and fell. While down, his vehicle rolled and struck him.

The victim was treated at the scene by medical personnel from Cullman Fire Rescue and Cullman EMS. Due to the nature of his injuries, the man was transported by ambulance to a helicopter landing zone on the East Elementary School playground.

Personnel in a Cullman Fire Rescue firetruck en route to a separate motor vehicle accident witnessed the incident. They informed Cullman e911 of the situation.

According to Cullman EMS Director James Curtis, the man sustained serious injuries in the mishap, yet remained conscious during the entire episode.

An Air Evac Lifeteam medical helicopter has just lifted off from the playground. By direction of flight, they appear to be bound for Huntsville Hospital.

Officers from Cullman Police Department are still active at the accident scene.
