COMBINE TO BATTLE CHICKEN HOUSE FIRES

Both Cullman e911 and Winston County 911 coordinated a joint-county response to a report of two chicken houses on fire along the 4600 block of Winston County Road 66.

This location is generally less than a mile south on County Road 66 from the Exxon intersection at Highway 278 near the county line.

It was a 4-alarm fire that severely damaged two chicken houses. The address of the incident falls within the Helcion Volunteer Fire & Rescue coverage area.

Addison Volunteer Fire Department participated in the three-hour firefight along with Cullman County’s Sardis and Jones Chapel Fire Departments.

One of the chicken house had been abandoned and crews have been dismantling it for salvage. The adjacent chicken house was being used as storage facility protecting various items of equipment and at least one generator.

Many of the valuables in this second house were destroyed at a significant financial loss to the owner.

According to Fire Chief Brett Rogers of Sardis, firefighters were able to stop the blaze at the 75-foot point into the second structure.

There were no injuries to firefighters, and the fire is now completely extinguished.
