Waid Harbison Departs Cullman For Major League Opportunities

In a surprising (if not shocking) announcement, Waid Harbison will be departing Cullman County – and his well-earned positions of leadership and power in the community.

Harbison is the Chairman of the Cullman County Republican Party as well as the Director of Marketing, Programs, and Events for Cullman Parks, Recreation, and Sports Tourism.

His departure leaves gaping talent holes in both organizations. Both groups will likely require more than one person to cover his precocious and wise-beyond-his-years skills.

Good News for Waid though: He has accepted a lucrative job as Director of Marketing for a professional hockey team in Atlanta, GA: Atlanta Gladiators.

He begins his residency in that major league city AND will begin this new career in June 2018.

In this interview, Waid explains all this in great detail, talks about his affection for his hometown, and plans to visit Cullman as often as possible.

Alex Chaney is the Vice-Chairman of the Cullman County Republican Party. Since he is actively campaigning for the Alabama House District 12 seat, he has declined to takeover Harbison’s position.

The Party is expected to name former Chairman – Kelly Duke – to step–in filling the void until the next party election cycle in November.

There is currently no decision made by Cullman Parks, Recreation, and Sports Tourism on Harbison’s possible replacement.

Alex Chaney had these thoughts about Waid:

“I want to thank Waid Harbison for all his hard work and leadership of the Cullman County Republican Party.

I think he was the youngest Chairman ever selected but has done an outstanding job.

Waid has worked tirelessly to promote the good Christian Conservative Values of the Republican Party and has been supportive of candidates, locally and from across the state.

He was also instrumental in the planning of our first Republican Fund Raiser which saw almost all the Republican candidates running statewide come to Cullman County to speak. TV stations from around the state came to cover this event and the Cullman County Republican Party made National news.

It was so successful we are now trying to make this an annual event. While we are sorry to see Waid move on, I know I speak for the Cullman County Republican Party in congratulating him on his new position as marketing director for the Atlanta Gladiators hockey team. We know he is on his way to do great things.”
