Suspected Kidnapping Attempt Reported In Jones Chapel
KIDS: Don’t Take Candy From A Stranger (Who Pull Up In Your Driveway In An Untagged Vehicle)

this story is from Lauren Moore out in Jones Chapel:

“Parents: please please PLEASE be vigilant about your kids playing outside.

We live out in Jones Chapel and it’s not uncommon for the kids to be outside playing with me watching from indoors.

Yesterday completely changed that for us. I’m not a helicopter parent and practice the hands-off approach when we’re at our own home. We had friends over to play and decided we would all go over to their house for the evening. While loading the rest of the kids into the car, I asked Cayden to go inside and grab me diapers for Calleigh.

As he walked towards the front of the house, a lady in a gold Ford Taurus (2000s model- no tag) pulled over and parked in front of my house. I assume she couldn’t see the rest of us on the side of the house because she asked Cayden if he wanted some chocolate. (?) He said “no ma’am” and went inside. She drove off.

I didn’t hear her talking to my son, but Kristina did. Cayden didn’t say anything about it until I asked him.

This could have been completely harmless- I’m sure “plenty of people” drive by slowly and pull over to ask kids if they want chocolate without the intentions of kidnapping them. (Hear the sarcasm there?)

I’m hyper-vigilant when we’re out in town, especially when I need to take all 3 alone, but living secluded in the area that we do, I was completely naive to think that it couldn’t happen out here. I’m thankful I was there and that my kid knew what to do. This has prompted some serious conversation in our home. Please don’t think it can’t happen to you. Teach your kids how to properly handle the situation in CASE it ever happens.

YES, we made a police report.”
