Elks Lodge Donates 150 Stuffed Animals To Victim Services of Cullman

The Cullman Elks Lodge #1609 is at it again with there ongoing charitable work across Cullman.

The Cullman Elks have just utilized a Beacon Grant to come to the aid of Victims Services of Cullman, Inc.

As you may know, Victim Service operates a protected shelter for battered and displaced women and children called Habor Haus Domestic Violence Shelter.

The majority of Victim Services’ clients enter the shelter with ONLY the clothing on their body. They effectively start their life over.

In observance of ‘150 Years of Elks’, Cullman Elks Lodge #1609 has donated 150 new or gently used stuffed animals for the children of this facility. According to Exalted Ruler of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) – Dale Ball:

“What child doesn’t like to have something to snuggle up to and feel safe?”

In addition to the stuffed animals, the Cullman Elks have contributed 25 ‘Welcome Baskets’ for each newly displaced woman and/or a child entering the shelter. These Welcome Baskets have everyday necessities from toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, brushes, feminine products and numerous other items. After completion of their stay at Victim Services, each lady will leave with an ‘Exit Basket’ as well. It will be filled with emergency household ranging from dishes and silverware, pillows, blankets, cookware, detergents, mop, and broom, etc.

This special needed project was made possible through member donations to The Elks National Foundation.

Ball had these thoughts today:

“Special thanks go out to Karri Willis Ridgeway, Esteemed Loyal Knight, for coordinating this terrific community service. And thanks to everyone that donates to this great organization. I must say I’m proud to be an Elk and a part of such a community-driven organization!”

For more information on becoming an Elk please contact Dale Ball at 256-734-9943.
