The inaugural event supports non-profit Life Lines 4 Thin Lines

Lane Horton Gymnasium on the campus of Hanceville High School hosted the inaugural first-responder focused dodgeball tournament in Cullman County history on Saturday.

Nearly seventy emergency medical professionals, law enforcement officers, and fire personnel from as far away as Birmingham gathered at 9 am to comprise eleven tournament-ready teams:

★ 2B1C
★ Beastie Balls
★ Birmingham Fire Department
★ Cot Jockies
★ Cullman County Sheriff’s Office
★ Dallas-Selfville Fire Department
★ Dodging Doughnuts
★ Hanceville Fire & Rescue
★ Johnsons Crossing Fire & EMS
★ Raider Rampage
★ Vine-Ridge Boys

Captain Jacob Hudson of Hanceville Fire & Rescue was recruited by the Vine-Ridge Boys to fill an open roster spot on the squad.

He had these thoughts before play started:

“This is going to be an outstanding event from many perspectives. I haven’t played dodgeball in awhile, and neither has anybody else. The point really isn’t the competition, it’s the Cause, the reason for this event in the first place.”

The ‘Cause’ mentioned by Hudson is the newly formed 501(c)3 non-profit organizations: Life Lines 4 Thin Lines.

The creation of Cullman EMS professional Kaitlyn ThackerLife Lines 4 Thin Lines – has a core mission of supporting first responders in need whether that is financial, emotional, mental, spiritual, etc.

In this interview, Thacker discusses Life Lines 4 Thin Lines in detail as well as describes the double-elimination dodgeball tournament itself:

In addition to the Life Lines 4 Thin Lines mission, five hours of competitive, strenuous dodgeball was played Saturday.

Here are the highlights (and lowlights) from the field of play:

All funds raised Saturday goes to assist first responders in Cullman County. Thacker hopes this will become an annual event.
