Earthquake Recorded Near Muscle Shoals

The U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Hazards Program reported a 2.8 magnitude earthquake in the Muscle Shoals area.

The earthquake sourced at a depth below ground of 8.2 km occurred around 3:30 am this morning.

The earthquake had an exact location of 34.742°N and 87.676°W. This longitude/latitude is approximately a one-half mile southwest of Muscle Shoals.

This magnitude of this earthquake is technically considered small. This level of an earthquake is often felt by humans and typically brings minor-to-no damage.

There is no structural damage reported in the area.

30,000 or so of these size earthquakes occur each calendar year according to the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Hazards Program.
