Police Chase of Stolen Vehicle Ends Woman Jumping From Interstate 65 Bridge

Morgan County 911 dispatched various emergency response agencies from both Morgan and Limestone Counties around 1 pm today.

The 911 caller indicated that a motor vehicle had been stolen from the Chevron Gas Station and Store at 904 Sixth Avenue NE in Decatur. During the incident, the vehicle in question struck an unmarked police cruiser. This initiated a police pursuit that led law enforcement from the area of US Highway 31 and AL Highway 20 southbound along Interstate 65.

The occupants of the eluding vehicle included a man and a woman.

Once the pursuit eventually reached the Tennesse River Bridge in the southbound lanes of I-65. According to Troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the occupied vehicle crashed.

According to Decatur police spokeswoman Emme Long, the now female suspect departed the wreck and jumped from the bridge attempting to hide in the underbrush and foliage under the bridge structure.

Limestone County Deputies joined Decatur Police Operators in the search for the female. Eventually, she was captured along with the male participant.

Traffic on I-65 Southbound was gridlocked for some time during this episode.
