Frios Popsicle Franchise Debuts In Cullman Warehouse District

report by Lauren Estes-Velez

Cullman added its newest way to cool off in the summer (or have a sweet treat anytime throughout the year) with a Frios franchise business opening in the Warehouse District.

Cullman native Kristy Keiffer and her husband Jay decided to open up the gourmet popsicle shop after spending time in Rome, Georgia and eating at a Frios shop there.

“We actually started the Frios Cart in April and utilized it across town and then the storefront opened in June. We officially opened the second Friday in July,” Kristy Keiffer said. “ We have three grown sons now-all have graduated college, and we wanted to do something in our spare time to help support some people we know in ministry. A Frios franchise seemed like the perfect opportunity because there wasn’t anything like this here.”

Keiffer attended Cullman Middle School and then moved to North Carolina. She finished school and college and then in 1992, and she returned to the Cullman area to raise three sons who have now graduated college.

“I feel like the uniqueness of this dessert would bring diversity to Cullman and local events,” Keiffer said. “We have several territories that include Cullman, the Smith Lake area, Decatur, and most recently Florence got a storefront.”

There are over 80 flavors of popsicles in divisions of ‘fruity” and “creamy.’

Frio popsicles are made with the Freshest possible ingredients:

“My favorite is caramel sea salt which would be of the creamy type. My husband’s favorite is pineapple, and it has real pieces of pineapple in it.”

Each week they have about 30 flavor types to choose from with varying flavors changes and new ones adding each week.

“We even have flavor options for those who are health conscious like the blackberry ginger lemonade. It’s only 25 calories,” Keiffer said. “We also have the candy bar flavor which is about 400 calories. It has bits of multiple candy bars, and it is great!”

The Cullman Area Chamber Of Commerce and many ambassadors were present for the official Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the store on Friday at 10:30 am.
