2nd Fridays & Celebrate Cullman Merge Into Downtown Mega-Fest

The most massive 2nd Fridays crowd to date filled First Avenue NE in downtown Cullman last night.

Sunny skies and a cooling setting sun made the street atmospherics inviting for both attendees and vendors.

Free and open to the public, the August 10th edition of 2nd Fridays was a tremendous hit. The event allowed Cullman residents (and out-of-town guests) a chance to sample a wide range of delicious food from favorite area restaurants as well as shop the streets of downtown Cullman late into the evening.

Andy Perkins and his family made the drive up Interstate 65 from Fultondale:

“We are thinking of moving to Cullman. Things are getting more and more dangerous around where we live. Cullman seems like a great city. And this event is far bigger and better than we imagined it would be.”

2nd Fridays are sponsored by the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce and Cullman Parks, Recreation & Tourism. Friday night’s edition got piggybacked by the annual Celebrate Cullman festival sponsored by the Downtown Merchants Association.

The long walk from Depot Park and the vintage car show south to the Busy Bee intersection featuring a Fair-like ambiance was significantly shortened by non-stop visual, auditory and epicurean attractions along the route.

Workers from locals restaurants as well as shops on the streets of downtown Cullman was kept busy late into the evening with the extensive foot traffic.

The special evening was enhanced by these canine-friendly side events at Depot Park:

• Dog Day in Depot Bark
• Cullman Area 2nd Fridays Furry 5K & 1-Mile Family Dog • Walk
• Dog parade
• Dog art and other dog-friendly activities.

Kelly Duke, the Chairman of the Cullman County Republican Party, was amazed at the size of the turnout:

“This is my first time at 2nd Fridays. I was expecting something much smaller. The number of people here is very impressive. Great job by everyone who made this all come together.”

Musical talent was plentiful and talented:

Drivin’ Blind
on the Dairy Queen Grill & Chill Restaurant Stage

Trick Zipper
on the Shirley Quattlebaum
State Farm Insurance Agent Stage

Alex Swindle
on the Artist Alley Stage

Celebrate Cullman added numerous children’s activities, amusement park apparatus, plenty of inflatables, and merchant sidewalk sales, to the already featured rich 2nd Friday’s line-up.

The September 2018 version of 2nd Fridays will be the last appearance of 2nd Fridays until 2019. You’ll want to make plans to attend.
